how do you polish french polish?

I sprayed shellac on to a coffee table, and have rubbed it back with a 800 grit silicon carbide paper. would like to find out best way to bring out the gloss.

French Polish is a technique where you apply a mixture of Shellac and Parrafin oil to wood using a pad made of cotton rags. You first fold one rag into a tight square bundle then you wrap it with another rag. You dip this into the shellac oil mix then start applying it in a circular motion. When it starts to get sticky you add a little more pure parrafin oil to the pad and continue rubbing. After it is allowed to dry for a while you rub it out with a slurry of pumice and parrafin oil, or for even better results you can use Car Polish. The trick is to use a super fine abrasive that will leave a very smooth surface. There is more than just my brief description involved in producing a true french polish, so if you want to do it right I would reccomend the Taunton Press book "finishing", it contains all the information that you will need.
