chainsaw sizes?

I am selling Carbide Tip chainsaw chains on ebay, and the top of the box says "36RD"

Does this mean they will fit a 36" bar?

I doubt it but it's possible. Its more likely that 36RD is the manufacturer's code for that style of chain. Instead of listing the length of bar you think it will fit on; list the manufacturer, the code, the pitch, the gauge, and the number of drivers. That information will tell anyone with some basic knowledge if your chain will fit on their saw.

The pitch is the distance between three consecutive rivets divided by two. Common pitches for carbide chains are: .325, 3/8's (or .375), and .404. There's also a 3/8's low profile chain that will have the same pitch as a regular 3/8's but will have shorter drivers. Pitch is NOT interchangeable without replacing some parts, and along with the number of drivers in a chain loop determines how long a bar is appropriate. Two chains with the same number of drivers, but different pitches will require different bar lengths, and vice versa.

Gauge is the width of the drivers, measured in 1/1000th of an inch. Common gauges are .050, .058, and .063.

Edited to add: The drivers are the portion of the chain that fits in the slot in the bar.
