Unholy grinding noise coming from my wheel?
I drive a 2002 Nissan Altima SL. The brake pads need to be changed because they squeal when I apply the brakes. However, on my way to work this morning, an uholy Metal Grinding noise came from the from the passenger wheel....however it happened when the car was coasting....NOT when I applied the brakes. Applying the brakes actually temporarily stopped the noise from happening. There is no decrease in brake performance at all (minus the usual pulsing that occasionally happens)
The noise was on and off and it's wasn't raining.
What on earth could that be?
I AM taking it to a garage...however I do need to drive home from work this afternoon. Just want to make sure it's ok to drive.
Any ideas?
1st off, without proper diagnostics you cannot get a proper repair, with that being said...
2nd, that "unholy" grinding noise you heard was probably the brake pad falling into the rotor and when you stepped on the brake it pushed it back into place.
3rd, when that squealing noise starts then its time to get new brakes, not when the grinding noise starts.
good luck and hope this helps.
