What kind of solder, Solder Flux should I use when joining copperwire that is gold colored? I am new to solder
I am new to soldering. And I need to join a rectangular shape securely. I plan to wire wrap the shape with 24 gauge gold colored copper wire and also have 5 to six beads arranged in the middle of the rectangular shape which is going to be a pendant.
Can you please tell me the best way to join the 18 gauge wire, I need to know what supplies I need as far as the best solder for this project and solder flux as well as should I use a Pencil Torch or a pencil tip Soldering Iron. I have both.
Please tell me brand names of the products.
Thanks best answer 10 points!
Any tin solder wire should do to solder Brass Wire. There are different alloys, which melt at different temperatures. This is important if you want to solder on top of an existing solder, in which case you should use a lower temperature solder.
There are led-based and non-led based. They all have flux embedded. There are also different gages. You can get some at Radio Schack, or at your local hardware store. Since it is for a pendant, I would advise non-led based.
For an 18 or 24 gage wire, or even less, a 30 Watt Pencil tip or even smaller, is sufficient.
If you are trying to solder to a fairly large piece, then, you may need something more powerful. A torch may do the trick, but I do not recommend because ir heats up everything. There are also stronger Electric Soldering rods, of several hundred watts. Flux may help, but it is messy. Make sure it is clean.
