how do i make a pattern for a router or shaper in order to make a wooden valance to go with cabinetry?
I need to make a valance with a 45 degree angles and i need to be able to make an arched valances as well any information would be very useful thanks.
Use a piece of hard board (aka Masonite) 1/4 inch thick. Carefully cut the shape that you want to rout, sand it smooth. This only has to be one side of the design. You can turn it over for the other side. Stick this pattern to your wood with Double Sided carpet tape and using a straight cutting bit with a bearing, set the depth so that the bearing rides on the pattern and cut it out! It will work best if you use the pattern to draw the shape on the wood and cut it out leaving 1/8' or so outside the line. That means the bit only has to trim that 1/8' of wood and will cut smoother and easier.
