Ford F-250 Triton V10 Misfire?
I have a F250 with a Trition V10 6.8 liter. Cylinder #3 has a misfire according to ECM - #3 Ignition Coil Fault. Brand new Spark Plug, coil pack; switched plugs and coil to different cylinder works fine only on #3 does not fire. Gets fuel, when cranking engine plug is taken out and is wet. Cannot figure out what is causing the mis. Valve problem? Using compression tester with rubber tip, read no compression but you could see the rubber tip getting sucked into the spark plug hole - suction? Can't figure this one out any ideas?
It seems to be a common problem with the V10's, I think even though you Check Engine Light is giving the code for CYL#3 IT IS MOST LIKELY #4 or More likely #5 because water drips in from the cowel and gets into the rear passenger side area of the engine dripping on the rear coils and plugs. My Check engind never came on. It just sputtered down the road, anyway i have copyed my conversations from yahoo answers on the same subject, read the whole thing:
I have just replaced mine on my F-250 V10, I purchased ten New spark plugs (Autolite Double Platinum APP103) and ten New Coils (DG508) On eBay.
I discovered the REAR coil & spark plug on the passenger side somehow was full of water. After reading yahoo Answers it seems its a common trend in the 5.4 and the V10 that the rear plugs and/or the coil over plugs go bad because of water dripping in from the cowel.
After purchasing your new coils and plugs it is a simple job, Its just very Time comsuming it get the plugs removed and replaced. you should be able to figure it out quickly. ALSO new coils come with a new boot. Here is a link for your coils:

I just went theough this so here is everything I have learned, Sorry if it is long:
FIRST (Me): ok my 2000 F-250 V-10 just all of a sudden started sputtering like it is missing on a few cylinders. The "CHECK ENG" Light is NOT on. it will not go over 55 mph, it just coughs and sputters.
SECOND reply from another yahoo user: It has CoilOverPlug's, when my 5.4 did that it was a bad Coil On Plug, after a bit the Check Engine Light will come on.
THIRD reply from a yahoo user: Yeah, thats what was wrong with my V-10, A bad coil. Problem with a V-10 is that it's hard to track down the bad coil sice the motor will
run smooth witha misfired cylinder. Only way to really tell id have a Ford Tech run a test, they have the right machines to find it. Or do what I did, I bought 10 coils on eBay for $110. Since I have a 1999, it was time to change them. After doing so it ran like a top. I kept the old coils for an emergency. Hope this helps,
CONCLUSION (Me): After purchasing ten New
sparkplugs (Autolite Double Platinum APP103) and ten New Coils (DG508) On eBay, I was finally able to get to it this weekend. I discovered the REAR coil & spark plug on the passenger side somehow was full of water. I think it was a few weeks ago while driving throught town when
it was pouring rain with flooded streets, Even though I am carefull and drive slow through flodded streets im sure a lot of water reached the top of my engine with no place to escape after parking and not driving it again for two weeks. The spark plug was rusted along with all the water still around the boot and spring inside. Well after a good cleaning, New plugs and new coils,I also replaced the Fuel Filter
and Air Filter. Now She runs like new again.
