Is it wise to buy an inkjet cartridge with a high capacity and use it over a period of several years?
Will the ink "dry up"?
It really depends on what it will be used for. If you're using it to primarily print text, get a laser printer. It will last longer and cost significantly less per print.
If it's for printing graphics/photos, then inkjet would be the way to go. If you use an inkjet printer properly, the ink should not dry up as suggested by the above poster. Genuine ink will cost more, but the prints will last longer and the nozzle heads will not dry up as much as they would with compatible inks.
Now, how long it will last is a difficult question to answer. It's a piece of electronics, so it could last you a long time, but it could also break down within a year. The same thing goes for a laser printer. Nobody can predict it.
